Communications Representative II/Communications Specialist/Non-Technical: Reston, VA Job Date: Apr 18, 2013 Location: Reston, VA, US Requisition ID: 70728 - Relocation Authorized: None - Organization: BSII - Location: Reston, VA - Closing Date: May 2, 2013 JOB OVERVIEW: Performs a variety of Public Affairs functions, which includes writing and editing articles for Bechtel publications, responding to media inquiries, issuing press releases, conducting media analysis, writing for social media, producing graphics for presentations and other products, developing messages, performing research and other assignments as assigned. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Writes news and feature stories for a variety of Bechtel publications. 2. Independently researches story ideas, conducts interviews with senior management or with persons external to Bechtel, and coordinates necessary photography and graphics in support of the article. 3. Under general supervision, responds to routine media inquiries for information and releases statements to media representatives with supervisor approval. 4. Completes media analysis and writes for social media. 5. Reviews various public, trade, and technical publications for references to Bechtel or topics related to Bechtel interests and directs the maintenance of files of these publications and articles. 6. Identifies potential stories about Bechtel activities for placement in media. 7. Develops new ideas and angles of interest for Public Affairs projects for supervisor review. 8. Plans and organizes publicity for Bechtel organizations, special programs, or events. 9. Updates websites, writes communication plans, creates PowerPoint presentations, and works with graphic designers to create products. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Communications (includes Mass Communications, Public Relations, Integrated Marketing Communications, Corporate Communications, Journalism), Business (includes Business Administration, Business Management, Marketing), or related field is preferred plus 1 year of related experience. - Must be able to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Advanced skills in written and oral communications. - Knowledge of Public Affairs and Communications tools and tactics - Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook - Proficient in computer applications and operating systems - Proficient in Power Point - Proficient in research - Previous experience and knowledge of Bechtel business practice - Proficient written and oral communications skills - Technology savvy and current with social media trends, experience with digital media - Video editing skills or the ability and desire to learn video editing - Prior experience or job knowledge of AP style, English grammar rules, writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Knowledge of reputational management, media relations, executive communications, issues management, press release formulation and style, graphic design, social media, and internal communications and event planning - Applicant should demonstrate teamwork, strategic thinking, problem solving, strong interpersonal skills, initiative with professional discipline, motivation, and the desire to continually learn. - Strong organizational and time management skills, good people skills, can produce high-quality content under deadlines, ability to juggle multiple projects at one time, experience developing strategic programs and managing events, and strong attention to detail.
